Nuku Hiva: Day 4

Friday, March 3, 2013

Today was spent trying to get some diesel in ours fuel tanks. The fuel dock is really sketchy here and has a really long line as there is only one gas station on the island and it fuels both cars and boats. We decided the best way was to borrow some Jerry jugs from a cruiser friend we met and dinghy back and forth from the fuel dock with the 70 gallons that we needed. It ended up taking three trips.

We finally got some bread. They have someone he who makes some fresh French baguettes here, so we got a few of those and had a bread feast for lunch. We hadn't had bread for almost three weeks now. Gary always jokes about having a sailor's weight loss program where you bring people out on a sailboat for a few weeks and between the physical exercise of sailing and the rather strict diet (and NO way to cheat), you'll lose the weight you want very quickly!

Anyway, that took most of the day. We are going to finish our errands tomorrow and head out. I really don't want to leave Nuku Hiva as I feel there is so much ore to explore, but there is a lot of adventure ahead of us that we need to get to. Plus, Jan will be waiting for us in Tahiti in 10 days.
