Galapagos to Nuku Hiva: Day 5 - Whisker pole round two

Sunday, April 14, 2013

We realized the cleat broke off the whisker pole too, and we need one to secure the length so it doesn't slide out on us. So we had to drill into the pole again and craft a cleat out of wood.

The only wood we had was cheap poplar, so we coated it in a layer of epoxy to strengthen it up. We then had the task of carrying the pole up out of the cabin and re-attaching it in some rolley weather.

Through the companion way.

Out the cockpit.

Careful along the edge of the deck (death to the left).

Positioning it and securing it on the mast.

Oh, and it started raining, to make the deck extra slippery.

We still haven't seen any boats since we left Galapagos. The only life we have seen are some whales, tiny squid, flying fish, and the few doomed birds living in our boom that I guess we smuggled out of Galapagos.
