Fiji: Days 104 & 105 - Garden of the Sleeping Giants

Thursday & Friday, November 7 & 8, 2013

We spent two days working on a jury rig solution to our electric headsail furling problem. The switch for the furling is not working for whatever reason. So, we had to run some six gauge wire from the deck down to the forward batteries under my bed. When we want to furl in or out, the person on deck is going to yell down to the person in my cabin who will touch the cables to the battery terminals to activate the furler (switch polarities to make it spin the other way).

We set it up as safe as possible and mounted the live wiring to bolts in a plank of wood so they never touch.

We went for a REALLY long cab ride to Lautoka to find this six gauge cable. It took all day and cost $250 Fijian for the cable alone. We did get to see 'The Garden of the Sleeping Giants" though, which are named for the sleeping-giant-like shape that the mountains take.
The second arrow should say "Second Chin". Apple's version of Paint is a pain to use...

The giant is lying on his back facing upwards, if you still can't see it.
