Sailing Across the Pacific Ocean 2013 (Part 26) - Robinson Crusoe Island

We got up early again today and were glad to find our engine still functional. We headed out at first light and sailed west.

The wind was weak (3 knots) and just off the bow, so we tried rolling out the jib to catch whatever wind we could to find something wrong with the furling motor. It would roll the sail in, but not out. We didn't want to work on it at sea, so we just raised the storm sail instead. Turns out it didn't matter, because there wasn't enough wind and we had to head up further anyway to pass through the Beqa Channel. So there we were motoring along with a backwinded storm sail in 3 knots of wind...what a sight.
We were thinking of throwing the fenders over the side and dragging them along to add to the whole image.

It was a 75 mile trip to Robinson Crusoe and we made it there with some good light to navigate the reefs and drop anchor.

Robinson Crusoe is a tiny resort island that gives its guests a remote, "shipwrecked" style vacation. I imagine guests pay quite a bit to come here, but yachties are allowed on the island for free and to take part in all their activities and events.

Tomorrow, we shall explore the island.
