NARC Rally 2012, Day 6: Rock You Like a Hurricane

October 29, 2012

Here is a video I shot of the hurricane progressing throughout the day:

The other two crew on our boat showed up at 4:30am this morning. I got up to greet them and offer my help to load the boat, but fell asleep again shortly after.

We are starting to really feel the effects of the hurricane now. I had to wade through water in the parking lot to get to the showers this morning. The lines we set up to secure the boats are holding, so there hasn't been any damage yet.

They are saying high tide around 8:00pm tonight and that the water level could rise up to 6 or 7 feet. That puts the water level above the shore power outlets, so they have to shut off our power and water to the boats.

We found a cool place to shelter from the storm during the day called The Seaman's Church Institute. It is one of a series of institutions alike in many major shipping port towns, originally run by the church, that offer low-cost services to mariners. It has cheap food, free wifi, a library, a chapel, laundry facilities, shower facilities, and so on.

It is open until 6:00pm, so we'll probably hang out here until then.

**Next morning update**

We survived the hurricane, no damage and no injuries.

The tide came up about 6 or 7 feet and flooded the whole marina. It trapped us on our boats with no power or water.

We went for a stroll before the tide rose and found some broken windows, and fallen trees and power lines.
