Fiji: Day 4

Thursday, August 1, 2013

I am shocked at how cheap things are here. I always pictured Fiji being very expensive. The exchange rate is around $2 Fijian dollars = $1 Canadian dollar and the prices on everything are not adjusted to compensate for that, so everything costs around half of what you would expect.

They are also more business-oriented here, so it is much easier to get supplies and you have choice between different stores to buy from.

In Fiji, we are officially no longer in Polynesia and have now entered the first part of what is considered Melanesia. You can really notice this among the locals, both in physical and cultural characteristics. Like everywhere else we have been, everyone is extremely friendly and I am starting to see why cruisers commonly get 'stuck' here for years.

Here are some pictures of the town in Savusavu.

And here are some pictures of the marina we are staying at (Copra Shed).
