I posted yesterday's find on reddit this morning to see if anyone could identify it.
Supposedly there is a high probability that this was the highly sought after gold-of-the-sea, ambergris. It is produced by sperm whales to help their digestion and is the reason they are now nearly extinct. Ambergris is highly valuable for use in perfumes and sells for about 2/3 the price of gold. This guy sold his for $400,000 and the one I found looks identical but was more than double its size.
It is odd because we did hear a HUGE splash in the water the night before that we thought was a whale. And if the thing I found was an organ, then wouldn't we also find a massive dead whale in the area?
